Sir Merrick Cockell, RB Kensington & Chelsea

Sir Merrick Cockell has been Leader of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea since 2000. Kensington and Chelsea is recognised as amongst the highest performing councils in the country and was assessed by the Audit Commission with the best possible rating in its annual Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) for 7 years running.
Before becoming Leader in 2000, Councillor Cockell held a variety of senior jobs at Kensington and Chelsea including Chairman of the Education and Libraries Committee and Chief Whip of the Conservative majority on the Council. As a ward Councillor he has served the people of Stanley ward in Chelsea since first being elected to the Council in 1986.

Councillor Cockell lives in the Earl's Court with his wife and two daughters. He founded and ran an international trading company for 23 years.
